Welcome to 1stStep.ai. Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using our platform. By accessing or using 1stStep.ai, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our service.

1. Who We Are

1stStep.ai ("we," "us," or "our") is an AI-powered resume tailoring and job search platform operated by 1stStep.ai, based in New Jersey. Our service rewrites your resume for specific job descriptions, performs keyword gap analysis, and helps you find relevant job listings. You can reach us at evan@1ststep.ai.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use 1stStep.ai. By using our service, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

3. Your Account

To access certain features, you may provide your name and email address. You are responsible for keeping your account information accurate and for any activity that occurs under your account. We do not store passwords — authentication is handled via email verification where applicable.

4. Subscription Plans and Payment

1stStep.ai offers the following plans:

• Free: 3 tailored resumes, a Career Positioning Brief, Role Match Score, 1 cover letter, resume vault preview, and limited saved jobs at no cost. No credit card required.
• Job Hunt Pass ($24.99/month): Unlimited resume tailoring, unlimited cover letters, application tracker, Career Positioning Brief, full resume vault, and Chrome extension workflow.

Paid subscriptions are billed monthly and processed securely through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis. We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' written notice to the email address on your account. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.

Refunds: Subscription fees are generally non-refundable except where required by applicable law. New Jersey residents retain all rights provided under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (N.J.S.A. 56:8-1 et seq.) and other applicable consumer protection statutes. If you believe you are entitled to a refund under applicable law, please contact us at evan@1ststep.ai.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use 1stStep.ai only for lawful purposes. You may not:

• Use the service to generate false, misleading, or fraudulent content intended to deceive employers
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse our API infrastructure
• Share, sell, or resell access to your account or the service
• Use the service in any way that violates applicable law or third-party rights
• Submit malicious files or content designed to harm our systems

6. Your Content

You retain ownership of the resume content, job descriptions, and other materials you submit to 1stStep.ai ("Your Content"). By submitting content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process it for the sole purpose of providing the service to you.

We do not use your resume content to train AI models. Your content is transmitted to Anthropic's Claude API to generate tailored outputs and then returned to you. We do not store your resume on our servers beyond what is necessary to complete your request.

7. AI-Generated Outputs

Our service uses artificial intelligence to rewrite and enhance your resume. AI outputs are not guaranteed to be accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular employer or role. You are solely responsible for reviewing, editing, and taking responsibility for any content you submit to employers. 1stStep.ai makes no guarantee that using our service will result in job interviews, offers, or any specific employment outcome.

8. Intellectual Property

All software, design, trademarks, and content on 1stStep.ai (excluding Your Content) are owned by or licensed to us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, or create derivative works from our platform without our written permission.

9. Third-Party Services

Our service integrates with third-party providers including:

• Anthropic (Claude API) — AI processing of resume and job description content
• Stripe — Payment processing
• Vercel — Infrastructure and hosting
• JSearch / RapidAPI — Live job listing data

Your use of these integrations is also subject to those providers' terms of service. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of third-party providers.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

1stStep.ai is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We do not guarantee any specific results from using the service. Nothing in this section is intended to limit any rights you may have under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act or other applicable consumer protection law.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, 1stStep.ai and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. Nothing in this section limits any rights or remedies you may have under New Jersey law, including the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (N.J.S.A. 56:8-1 et seq.) or the Truth-in-Consumer Contract, Warranty and Notice Act (N.J.S.A. 56:12-14 et seq.).

12. Termination

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings or by contacting us at evan@1ststep.ai. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct we determine to be harmful to other users or our platform. Upon termination, you may request deletion of your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy.

13. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts. Nothing in this section limits your right to bring claims under New Jersey consumer protection statutes in any court of competent jurisdiction.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you via email or an in-app notice at least 30 days before the changes take effect.
